Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT)

In a continuing effort to offer industry-current degree programs in the varied and complex field of information technology, CTU Online has developed the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree program with concentrations in three in-demand segments of the IT industry.

Network Management

The BSIT with a concentration in Network Management features courses in network infrastructure administration, implementing, managing and maintaining a network infrastructure, and network infrastructure design.

Students can learn to install, configure, and support internal and/or external networks, troubleshoot networks to determine the root causes of problems, analyze the business and technical requirements for a network infrastructure, and design a network infrastructure that meets these requirements.

Security

The BSIT with a concentration in Security features courses in security management, security architecture and disaster recovery.

In this concentration, students can learn to analyze security policies and evaluate risk assessment techniques; explain security principles, concepts and techniques; and develop, implement and analyze disaster recovery plans.

Software Systems Engineering

The BSIT with a concentration in Software Systems Engineering features courses in software requirements engineering, software design and software testing.

In this curriculum, students can learn to elicit, identify, define and document software requirements; develop use case scenarios for requirement creation and software design; apply appropriate software design models to develop a software solution; and plan, implement and report software testing.

Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MSSE)

Colorado Technical University is pleased to announce the addition of a Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MSSE) to computer science professionals motivated by opportunities to gain a competitive edge and pursue increasing levels of responsibility in their careers. Applications are being accepted now for classes scheduled to begin on October 4, 2009.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of computer systems engineers is expected to grow nationally by 38 percent through the year 2016 as organizations design and develop new computer software systems, and incorporate new technologies in a rapidly growing range of applications in order to maximize the efficiency of their computer systems.*

In response to this growing need for knowledgeable, skilled professionals responsible for the design of today's complex products and systems, coursework is focused on teaching students how to:

  • Select and apply modern SE tools, including operations research, system modeling/simulation/test methods, synthesis techniques, process control and system integration tools.
  • Define the role and scope of SE and its interface with the related areas of project management, operations, logistics, performance, test, manufacturing, training and support, reliability/maintainability, quality assurance and disposal.
  • Select and apply appropriate industry/government standards, models, metrics and documentation standards incorporated in SE practice.
  • Apply oral and written communications skills essential to the SE process.

Master of Science in Management - Information Systems Security (MSM)
