Online Learning at NJIT

NJIT online classes are virtual learning communities with instructor-led online classrooms that use rich platforms to present course material as well as both asynchronous and synchronous communication. Online courses are flexible and rigorous educational experiences suited to motivated students. Course material can be accessed through the Internet via learning managements systems that use multimedia presentations. Students also download podcast lectures by using NJIT on iTunes U. Course materials is also presented to students as streaming video, CD ROM and DVD. Online Learning is a convenient alternative for students who work, either part-time or full-time. It's also well-suited for those who want to either advance in their current company or change careers.

  • Complete course descriptions can be found in the NJIT Online Catalog. Courses are subject to change. Take care to select courses in proper order. Check course descriptions, because they state if one course must be taken before (i.e.; is a prerequisite to) another.
  • Academic Requirements: Graduate certificate programs are 12 credits (4 courses) and can be completed within one academic year (3 semesters--Fall, Spring, Summer). Standard NJIT admission requirements apply to these graduate certificates and can be found in the NJIT Online Catalog (use requirements for related degree).
  • Computing Requirements: A high speed internet connection is required. Windows XP or beyond is recommended. Most computers from the past five years will offer enough computing power for online classes. Certain technical courses will require higher levels of computing power.

NJIT offers a new online tuition rate which reduces the out-of-state graduate student's tuition, bringing it closer to the in-state rate. At most public research universities in the United States, tuition for out-of-state enrollees is approximately double what residents pay. Because of the new online tuition, adults living anywhere in the country, as well as abroad, can afford to earn a graduate certificate or advanced degree from NJIT without ever stepping foot on campus.

Out-of-state residents who choose to attend NJIT enjoy not only world-class advanced programs but also significant cost and financial advantages over similar universities. For international students who study from their home countries, this means that no VISA is required. All this, now at a competitive tuition rate.
