The mission of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is to provide the highest quality instruction, research, and service in support of the mission of the University of Louisville. Regarding instruction, the intent is to educate students in a professional engineering school context and prepare students for a productive life-long career in the engineering profession. Second, the intent is to conduct research relevant to the environment and infrastructure. Last, the intent of service is to be useful to the University, the community, the Commonwealth, and the profession. Overall, our intent is to provide an educational experience that prepares graduates for the challenges they will face during their professional careers.

Master of Science in Civil Engineering - Transportation Engineering

Applicants to this program must have a GPA minimum of 2.75 and a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

Offered by the university's J.B. Speed School of Engineering, this 100% online program emphasizes the planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance of air, transit, and highway transportation systems. You will leave this program prepared for in-demand transportation design and construction engineering careers in which you'll work with architects and other design professionals to solve current and future transportation issues.

Courses for the transportation engineering concentration include traffic engineering, environmental analysis of transportation systems, geometric highway design, global positioning systems (GPS) theory and application, geographic information systems (GIS) applications in transportation, transportation planning and urban development, fundamentals of intelligent transportation systems and pavement design.

Subject matter in this program is highly computer-oriented and follows a computer-aided engineering approach.
