Distance Learning FormatBack to topThe School of Information Studies has been offering master's degrees through distance learning since 1993. The limited residency distance learning format offers a unique opportunity for those who live outside the Syracuse area or who have schedules that don't allow them to attend campus-based courses. Online courses are of the same academic rigor as on-campus courses. Members of the School of Information Studies faculty teach in both the online and on-campus formats. Distance learning students begin their first year in July with a six-day required on-campus residency. During this time, students will complete their first four credits; will become familiar with WebCT, the courseware tool used for their remaining course; will get to know School of Information Studies faculty and staff; and will attend an advising session. During the fall and spring semesters, students take online courses. Some of these courses may require an initial two-day on-campus residency. During the fall semester, these residencies are held Labor Day weekend. During the spring semester, they are held Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. LIS students can expect to return to campus one or two times during their program. IM students are not required to return to campus after the initial residency except for a two-day stay at the end of their program. TNM students are not required to return for any residencies after their initial residency in July. Master of Science in Information ManagementBack to top
